Awana: Who We Are, What We Do

The name Awana originated from 2 Timothy 2:15, "Study to show thyself approved, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of truth."

FOCUS:

"Reaching kids with the Gospel of Jesus Christ and training them to serve Him" are the dual aims of Awana Clubs International.

WHO:

James & Paula Cavanaugh desire to serve as the Awana Missionaries for Oklahoma. As the regional missionaries, they have enlisted the support of a ministry team to serve the Lord through the ministry of Awana to "reach boys and girls with the gospel of Christ and train them to serve Him."

Awana missionaries share local churches' zeal to turn their communities upside down for Christ - starting with young people, the most open age group to the Gospel. Our missionaries' calling is to support churches in their assigned region in the task of impacting the lives of kids and families, both inside and outside the congregation.

Modern Day Joseph

Our children and youth are ill-equipped for spiritual and moral challenges today - and for leading the home, church, and community tomorrow. In fact, many will leave their faith behind after high school. Awana offers a solution. We are calling and equipping parents and churches to work together to raise kids who know, love and serve Christ. Inspired by the life of Joseph from the Old Testament, whose trust in God and character carried him through trials and temptations.

The five Master Life Threads that characterize Joseph as a modern-day model for our children and youth are:

RESPECT: Jospeh respected God's authority
WISDOM: Joseph was wise and knew his wisdom came from God
GRACE: Joseph practiced grace in his relationships
DESTINY: Joseph had a great sense of destiny and purpose that came from God
PERSPECTIVE: Joseph's perspective of life started with the sovereignty of God
