Ten Standards of Excellence for Your Club

These are the ten standards of a successful Awana Club. The characteristics beneath each standard illustrate a well-run club and can serve as the pattern for a church's orientation and evaluation. These standards have been compiled based upon principles contained in Awana training materials.

Child Protection Policy

At Awana we are often asked for help in protecting children. We are happy to respond to these requests. We recognize that in helping churches protect children, we are also helping to protect the adults working with children and the ministry of the church. We believe churches that do not protect children suffer lost ministry opportunities. You can use this flier to start putting a protection policy in place.

Grand Prix

The Awana Grand Prix is a family-oriented affair that allows clubbers to express their ingenuity by creating and racing their own wooden Grand Prix cars while enabling clubs to share God's plan of salvation with clubbers' unsaved family members by attracting them to a fun event involving their child. Many clubs include a special race for parents and leaders caught up in the excitement of crafting their own cars. Grand Prix events usually last about two hours or the equivalent of one club meeting.

Registered churches may rent the state track for only $25. Checks should be made out to Awana.
To schedule a date contact Chuck Darnell at iwantatrack@yahoo.com (please allow approximately one week for responses).

Awana Missions Opportunities

Adopt a Club:

Thousands of churches overseas see Awana as an extremely effective means of leading kids and families to Jesus Christ. But there are many more that cannot afford to start and run clubs. Individuals, churches, clubs and families can meet this critical need through Adobt-a-Club. For just $20 a month, or $240 a year, you can provide 10 or more children with Awana materials that enable them to participate in Awana. Many clubs do this through simply collecting coins on a card that adds up to the support necessary to fund one of these sponsorships. Find out more or email adopt-a-club@awana.org

Missionary Contacts:

Are you looking for additional missionaries for your clubbers' missionary sections? Awana missionaries are always available to help, but some sections require information about more than one missionary, and some children want to study a wider variety of missionaries. As we continue to meet missionaries in our travels we will add their contact information here for your use:

Support the Cavanaugh's Ministry:

Pray. Not only for us, but for those who volunteer on our ministry team. Pray for wisdom, good health, traveling mercies, and financial support. Also pray for the churches and clubs across the state that many children, youth, and their families would be reached for Christ. Pray for additional volunteers.

Collect food staples and office supplies for the Cavanaugh's. This is a good way to involve clubbers in supporting their Awana missionaries. A list of frequently used items is available to help facilitate this type of service project. In addition the Cavanaugh's would appreciate anyone who was willing to do yard work, wash the van, or help complete other ministry maintenance projects (office work, event supply inventory etc) - please contact us at (918) 286 - 3343 for any current project needs.

Helpful Hints

Bring a Friend Sections:

The spirit of the section is to teach the kids to invite their friends to church so that they hear the Gospel. There are always going to be some kids who honestly can't bring a friend to club for one reason or another. Therefore, here are some ideas for these kids to complete once all avenues have been exhausted while trying to complete the original requirement:

• Bring an adult who has never been to club.
• For each required visitor, invite two friends and have the friends write a note documenting the invitation, but verifying they couldn't come.
• Clearly share the Gospel with a friend or family member.

Handbook Pacing Calendar:

The pacing calendar allows you to set your start and end dates, plus include any dates that you will not be having club in order to determine how many sections a clubber will need to pass each week in order to complete their current handbook in a single club year.

Awana Forums:

Have questions or need ideas? The Oklahoma Missionary and Ministry Team are here to help, but did you know that you can also get answers from leaders from across the country? Check out what's happening on the Awana Forums. You can converse with other Awana leaders, as well various staff members at Awana Headquarters. Let your voice be heard about various undertakings and ideas for future endeavors.

Awana Newsletters:

These free newsletters are published by Awana for your use.

• Awana Ideas contains tried and true methods of doing all sorts of activities - many of which are submitted by leaders from across the country. A index of the topics covered in Awana Ideas issues can be located in ART on the Leader Resources page.

• Parent Pause, Sparkles and KidsPrint can be printed for your clubbers and their families. They have stories and activities for the kids, and there is a place on the last page for you to share any announcements with parents. Subscribe to these newsletters along with several other newsletters.

Extra Credit:

For the clubbers that finish their handbooks, review the review material perfectly, and complete the Frequent Flyer Cards / silver & gold sections - weeks before the end of the club year. More extra credit ideas are available in ART on the Sparks or T&T Leader Resource page under "resources." You can also have clubbers complete Truth Scripts or do some peer tutoring.

Award Placement:

Can't figure out where that award is supposed to be displayed. Sign onto ART on the Leader Resources page for the particular club. You can also find clip-art, announcements, and ideas on each Leader Resource page.
