Dear Awana Family,
We have just completed our first full year in-state, and we are proud to say that it has been a very successful year! Approximately 1000 leaders have completed the new Basic Training Orientation. This means that all of these people have been trained in how to effectively share the Gospel with anyone. If each of these people share the Gospel with only one person, that's a potential for 1000 new believers! There are many more Basic Training opportunities coming up in the next few weeks. Please check the Ministry Calendar for a date and location near you.
As you know, we were required to raise a guaranteed 70% of our monthly budget before we were allowed to move to Oklahoma. Currently we are receiving an average of exactly 70% each month plus several annual gifts that place us at approximately 80% overall. Now we need to continue to raise the remaining 20% ($1400) of our monthly budget. If you feel that God is calling you to support the Oklahoma Awana Ministry on a regular basis, please complete the online form. There are also several other ways that you can support the ministry:
- Pray, Pray, Pray!! Not only for us, but for those on our ministry team. Pray for wisdom, for good health, for traveling mercies, for financial support. Pray also for churches and clubs across the state that many children, youth, and their families would be reached for Christ. Pray for additional volunteers.
- Volunteer to make phonecalls. We are closing in on 250 churches with the Awana Ministry across the state. It is very difficult to minister to each church the way we would like to in a reasonable amount of time. Therefore we are currently looking for 30+ volunteers who would call 5 churches in their area on a regular basis just to check in and see how things are going and to relay any current announcements.
- Volunteer to coordinate/staff events. AwanaGames, Sparks-a-Rama, and Bible Quiz are coming up in the spring. Interest is picking up in events across the state, however, events that are not staffed cannot be held.
- We completely understand that some clubs/churches are just not able to afford to support the ministry financially. Several churches have requested a list of frequently used items (PDF format - updated 6/27/08) that they can have clubbers collect for us.
Additionally (especially for those in the Tulsa area), we would be more than grateful for anyone who wanted to come do some yard work or wash our car. These could be used to help clubbers complete service sections in the older clubs. We always have ministry maintenance projects (office work, event supply inventory, etc. - please contact us for other projects to be completed) if you or your church would be interested in helping.
Please remember though that we are here to support you and your ministry. If you have any questions or if you just need a listening ear, please do not hesitate to contact us at (918) 286-3343.
In His Service,
James and Paula
